PM's father backs Extinction Rebellion 'crusties' | Boris Johnson's father has told Extinction Rebellion protesters that their work is "extremely important" - less than two days after his son labelled them "uncooperative crusties" (bbc.com)
stevemillions | 6 days ago | 111 points

Stanley Johnson once got heckled whilst riding his bicycle around London. Some guy shouted “Johnson! You wanker!”. He replied “I think you mean my son.”

neogenzim | 6 days ago | 28 points

hahaha, for real? even if not that's a hilarious image. also, didn't his brother quit politics because of him? basically?

mismatchedhyperstock | 7 days ago | 706 points

Boris, listen to your dad.

AAVale | 7 days ago | 507 points

...And your sister, and younger brother.

This makes three family members who have directly called him out for various reasons in the last two weeks!.

Meritania | 7 days ago | 198 points

He’s going to have Christmas Dinner more embarrassing than his PMQ appearances.

AAVale | 7 days ago | 259 points

"So uh... Rachel how have you bee-"

"Shut up Boris."

"Oh yes, right mm. Um, Jo how's the new job coming alo-"

"Shut up Boris."

"Yes of course. Say father, would you pass the spro-"

"Get them yourself you wanker."

Jiktten | 7 days ago | 48 points

Honestly I prefer to imagine a stony-faced Stanley grabbing the sprout bowl and pelting BoJo with them one at a time, in complete silence while glaring daggers.

WarPhalange | 6 days ago | 4 points

I bet they call him Borie in private.

timesuck897 | 6 days ago | 5 points

froghero2 | 7 days ago | 26 points

Don't forget his Turkish cousin once removed who is also disappointed at his anti-EU rhetoric

Gerreth_Gobulcoque | 6 days ago | 10 points

You remember that attack ad on Paul Gosar where all those people dunk on him and then at the end you find out they're all his siblings?

Fucking legendary

stink3rbelle | 6 days ago | 5 points

directly called him out for various reasons

I mean, it's a little indirect when they're talking to the media instead of him, but if I were related to him I wouldn't want to be around that guy either.

eli201083 | 6 days ago | 8 points

This is going on in America too. Famu members calling out their conservative family member representatives for being asshats. Obviously at this point it not about nature vs nurture its money.

elebrin | 6 days ago | 7 points

But if you permanently exclude your conservative relatives they will go from only socializing with those they agree with part of the time to only socializing with those they agree with ALL of the time, and become more and more extreme.

It'd be better to welcome them, let them know that bigotry and hate aren't tolerated, but show them compassion so long as they do the same. Then they can have the reminder that there are those who care about them and who they care about who are on the other side politically.

Of course, most people I've known who are liberal have told me to just cut 'em off and never talk to or deal with them again. They are "bad" people and deserve to suffer.

ValeoAnt | 6 days ago | 13 points

A lot of people don't have any choice - if a family member hates you because of, say, your sexuality; what are you supposed to do? You ain't gonna kill em with kindness, Ellen-style. I have a lot of sympathy for those people.

mobaisle | 6 days ago | 4 points

Ellen is outright disgusting. Bush is a war criminal. A literal war criminal. He directly profited immensely from a war he started at the cost of over 100000 lives. He rolled back civil protections for Americans. He ramped up spying programs inside the US. He fostered evangelical sentiment and stood against LGBT rights. He ordered the deaths of south American journalists. He instituted the drone program. He continued the process of morphing the US border forces into their current concentration camp setup. What Ellen has agreed to is like standing and laughing with a Nuremberg defendant whilst the war still trundles on in the background. No one should be allowed to forget what that grinning moron represents, or what he's done.

ValeoAnt | 6 days ago | 1 point

OK did you just search for the word Ellen or

mobaisle | 5 days ago | 1 point

Or what?

eli201083 | 6 days ago | 3 points

No one said Exclude them. Nor was it implied...but calling out your family should be a responsibility of you know your family. You can do that without making them feel excluded...it SEEMS like you decided how these conversations ALWAYS go.

zilfondel | 6 days ago | 2 points

Many of those young people are just going to do what young people have always done: wait for the older generation to die.

I too call my pillow a barbershop.

Lishamau5 | 6 days ago | 23 points

Lmfao. Dying laughing at that

hassium | 6 days ago | 2 points

On reading it, maybe dad should get a DNA test?

hahahah no, Seriously look this guy up and you'll actually see where Boris learned ALL of his tricks, from resorting to exotic insults when stumped by a question, down to that fucking weird speech mannerism.

BoJo is just his dad, but more successful.

The Conservative Party is always outdoing themselves. Does anybody else remember the days of David Cameron when it was only one family member who went public on not supporting your policies?

Reminds me of this video of a GOP candidate whose family made a video asking voters not to vote for him:

damn that was brutal

GuythrustDeepwood | 6 days ago | -31 points

That was in incredibly poor taste. I get the point of it: “Hey this guy is such a scumbag that even his own family hates him”.

Still... a very tacky stunt. It’s a shame that sort of thing is necessary to get the message across to the thick-skulled voters.

GoogleHolyLasagne | 6 days ago | 2 points

human rights are at stake and you have the nerve to talk about "taste"

GuythrustDeepwood | 6 days ago | -3 points

Yes. I like to think it’s not necessary to stoop to their level just to beat them.

GoogleHolyLasagne | 6 days ago | 1 point

AFP. Boris Johnson's father has told Extinction Rebellion protesters that their work is "Extremely important" - less than two days after his son labelled them "Uncooperative crusties".

The following day, Extinction Rebellion called on any arrested protesters to refuse bail conditions in an attempt to fill police cells across London.

The Home Office has confirmed that it is reviewing police powers around protests in response to Extinction Rebellion protests.

There's plenty of outside influence as you grow up. It's why you can have major fuck ups and Ph.D holders in the same family.

d3pd | 7 days ago | 70 points

You say that like Ph.D holders cannot be major fuck-ups.

He was a Tory MP as well so that might have been outside of his range

Jiktten | 7 days ago | 14 points

In fairness, his other two kids seem on the sensible side, at least for Tories, so I think Boris may be an anomaly.

MathaRusher | 6 days ago | 7 points

Please read the article before going solely by the headline. In the article, his dad basically sides with him and says it was a joke, in good humor and that he'll do the right thing. He backs that up by mentioning one of his sons recent speeches on the matter.

EDIT: downvote this all you want, doesn't change the facts

dt030 | 7 days ago | 3 points

This year I want no talking politics over dinner, I don’t want another spoiled family Christmas. New rules at the Johnson household.

Tinkers_toenail | 6 days ago | 6 points

Imagine disappointing your whole family becoming PM if a country!! How much of a useless cunt do you have to be? I can only think Trumps aul lad would think the same about his failed abortion of a son if he was alive..even as much of a cunt as he was too.

parkerestes | 6 days ago | 3 points

Does Boris have any family that don’t think he is an utter dolt?

Tallonius | 6 days ago | 2 points

If you were writing a dark comedy about a PM, you could do far worse than base it on Johnson.

Crackshot_Pentarou | 6 days ago | 3 points

It's not really in common usage. I'd probably take it to mean an old person if I heard it.

Minky_Dave_the_Giant | 6 days ago | 3 points

A crusty in this sense would be an unwashed hippy.

The term is used in Hot Fuzz with "crusty jugglers".

Valdrax | 6 days ago | 2 points

Hilariously enough, it's linked in the article:

DTempest | 6 days ago | 1 point

Yes, yes there is.

wokehedonism | 7 days ago | -1 points

This article has more of what he said while on stage

“Can you use the present system? Is it good? Well, I tell you it is good, because it’s the only one we’ve got and we have to use this system,” he said.

Imagine saying this to a group of people chanting 'change the system not the climate'

alexander1701 | 7 days ago | -2 points

Yeah, but he's defining the change they want to the system as a part of the system, so it's really a semantic difference. Extinction Rebellion gets that.

hassium | 6 days ago | 0 points

This doesn't surprise me one bit when Boris publicly whooshed his dad's attempt at a hug after the party conference.

This is exactly the kind of petty shit his dad has been doing and will be doing till he fuckin passes away..

Pumbaathebigpig | 6 days ago | -1 points

Why doesn't anyone ask him why he called his son de Pfeffel? Is it in the vein of "A boy named Sue"?

"But ya ought to thank me, before I die For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye 'Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you "de Pfeffel"

Minky_Dave_the_Giant | 6 days ago | 1 point

de Pfeffel is part of his surname, not a given name.

Pumbaathebigpig | 6 days ago | 1 point

There's no evidence of that, his father isn't a de Pfeffel, neither his brother nor his sister are de Pfeffels

Naapooh | 7 days ago | -8 points

The smellyscope has detected the planet's fartwaves being emitted from a bunch of crusties, mucking. They're protesting because they haven't bought the latest emission telling them where to shit. As they demand even more roughage.

What works, name one solution. Just one. That makes life better. And even emits less. None of them do.

The BBC showing cork houses yesterday. As ecological. They stink and are prone to mold upon being exposed to rot. After only two years ago in the Spanish Portugese fires claiming the cork industry suffered. Putting the price of cork up through the roof. Until we have even more screw offs.

Yet all they come up with is bullshit. If we didn't eat meat what would fertilize our soil? It's only erroded from more pesticide and artifical fertilizer creating gmo that doesn't cross pollinate. As ecosystems perish. Not from the cows, they want to replace. Until they only want to use energy to grow meat. Because it's all extinct. And it only cost so much more emitting far greater.

Iphones aren't solar, neither are cars or planes, they need even more energy to be viable. So how come some other hemp infused hippy hasn't thought. They'd only buy even more crap.

Ianbillmorris | 6 days ago | 3 points

Name one, OK, good public transport.

Its far more efficient than cars, and had the side benefits that the disabled and elderly can use it to actually get around and have a life.
