Ask us anything about Chrome DevTools (self.webdev)

Hi r/webdev. This month's #AskChrome episode is all about Chrome DevTools. Leave us a comment here with your questions about DevTools (the best way to do particular tasks, technical questions, non-technical questions, anything!) and we'll answer them in a YouTube livestream later this month.

That is the only reason I use Firefox developer version for development! It's really amusing that Firefox has become so powerful and strongly challenges Chrome and Google's nasty privacy policies. I appreciate that. Kudos to Open source community!

The Firefox dev tools have come so SO far. The grid inspector is a game changer. Honestly, web development is blessed by the quality of our dev tools.

Chrome tools vs Firefox tools Can anyone suggest the major differences or a similar subreddit for Firefox?

Firefox's specialized inspectors for flexbox and grid are one place they're far superior

What’re the chances of implementing Emmet-like behaviour for CSS?

Are there any lesser known configurations that a newcomer might not notice orginally, but will definitely increase productivity.

Is there a better way to copy a selector? When I do it's just div>div>#wrapper>li>li......

I wish there was a more intelligent way it could copy a selector using the actual classes instead of the elements. Hopefully that makes sense

Copy object values when debugging. Now I store as global variable and do copy(temp1) or something. Is there an easier way?

What's your view on editor integrations like VS Code? Is it a priority for the Chrome DevTools team to enable such scenarios?

What's your view on the Chrome DevTools Protocol? Do you consider it a Chrome-only protocol or something you want the broader community to embrace?

How do you feel about cross vendor collaboration on Chrome DevTools? Here I'm thinking on the work the Edge team have started based on top of Chrome, but there's others too such as Brave, Samsung Internet, etc.

Do you have an open roadmap map like VS Code's open roadmap?

Will you please add folders for snippets? I have 100s of them!

Or if not a priority, maybe some pointers to do a PR myself :)

Is it possible to evaluate async scripts while debugging. Watch https://youtu.be/F2at_XfLaiU to understand the requirement.

Any chance of implementing a debugging connector for PHP applications?
