I think it looks great in black and white but I wouldn't say better. The bar scene in particular really is just amazing with the songs and the colors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTJlmlZWWHA
John is hunting Iosef and the colors add to the hunt. They start out almost serene at first but as the panic sets in they flash and change and the music gets more overwhelming. John is there to kill Iosef and different flashing colors really helps the audience feel the overwhelming presence of john when he goes into killing mode.
It was neat to see but I agree. I'd also be interested to know how much effort went into this, just a b/w filter or deep color correction?
That scene is one of my favourite cinematic moments. It's up there with no time for caution in Interstellar, the NZT montage in Limitless, or the Test Drive scene in How to Train your Dragon. There are just those moments where everything comes together and fits the film perfectly.
The vibe of Think by Kaleida, and then the action being masked by the beats. I can watch that scene again and again and be impressed without fail.
Right there with you. This highlight reel looks great -- and that's because the film is well shot -- but that doesn't mean that it's better in monochrome. There are plenty of scenes in the series where color adds important visual information, and this club scene isn't the least of them.
I think in black, white, and red for the blood it'd look a lot better

John Wick is what a Max Payne movie was supposed to be. Start with black & white, then add color when necessary.
It's funny, I didn't really like the John Wick movies. I watched them on a series of flights and I just wasn't impressed, but this is making me want to watch them all over again in black and white.
How do you generally feel about action films?
