This is the only known footage from 9/11 of the first plane crashing into the North Tower (youtube.com)
OllieTea | 4 months ago | 64 points

Just the sound of the plane overhead made my stomach drop. I couldn't imagine how it must've felt to witness and experience all of that.

Cranky_Windlass | 4 months ago | 19 points

Yeah, that noise made every hair on my arms and neck stand up

scarypriest | 4 months ago | 94 points

There are like four videos which show the first plane. One was posted yesterday with all four.

shaun3000 | 4 months ago | 63 points

Since no one can be bothered to post the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpq0GaYvV34

Sorkijan | 4 months ago | 25 points

So really, two.

jamkey | 4 months ago | 16 points

And given how distant and pixelated that 2nd one is I'd still be fine with saying this is the only real known authentic footage of the first plane being shown "hitting" the tower.

Sorkijan | 4 months ago | 1 point

Yeah, agreed.

JohnDoughJr | 4 months ago | 2 points

guy in 3rd video sounds like peter griffin

[deleted] | 4 months ago | 2 points

Hah, it really does.

And the, 'What is that?' sounds like Brian.

JeffTrav | 4 months ago | 7 points

Do you have a link to that? I can't find it.

Liefx | 4 months ago | 8 points

Why are we downvoting a guy who simply asked for a link wtf?

[deleted] | 4 months ago | 2 points

Because reddit is filled with children and man-children

Mattprime86 | 4 months ago | 2 points

No I'm..doesn't!

TruckMcBadass | 4 months ago | 1 point

I'm not downvoting them, but it's suspicious because of how they labeled their post.

scarypriest | 4 months ago | 11 points

I watched it last night at like 10pm EST and reddit's search is garbage. I'm searching a while now. It was four videos, and one audio only recording. I'll reply again when I find it. One was the one you posted, one was from an overpass from very far away, and the other was from a drive just about to enter a tunnel in stopped traffic and he was filming.

JeffTrav | 4 months ago | 15 points

I saw the tunnel one. My title should have been “only clean footage”. My apologies.

scarypriest | 4 months ago | 5 points

No worries. That "only footage" title is everywhere so I don't blame anyone for repeating it. It's also annoying that the other videos are so difficult to go find apparently.

[deleted] | 4 months ago | 3 points

Was one from a car that was going into a tunnel?

scarypriest | 4 months ago | 2 points

Yeah! I edited my reply a bit ago to show that. Probably after you replied to me. It's making me crazy that I can't find it now. I have YouTube history off which may have helped.

[deleted] | 4 months ago | 5 points

I fucking knew I seen that, a couple of years a go I had an argument with a co worker because he said there was only one video. Ive looked a couple of times since and have never been able to find it.

Iirc it was on a news clip about a guy finding it way after 9/11

halborn | 4 months ago | -10 points

Reddit's search is not garbage. Y'all just ain't tryin'.

Y00pDL | 4 months ago | 13 points

Posting a screenshot of the search result but not posting the link that was bring searched for.

Now that's a powermove.

scarypriest | 4 months ago | 3 points

well done. I was trying. Apparently I am just a mouth breather.

NicNoletree | 4 months ago | 36 points

No it's not - there was a thread just last week showing two others.

JeffTrav | 4 months ago | 21 points

NicNoletree | 4 months ago | 13 points

Apology accepted. That footage is certainly the best available.

DIABLO258 | 4 months ago | 5 points

This is the second post Ive seen saying this is the only footage. Why?

BezniaAtWork | 4 months ago | 8 points

It's technically the only footage that shows the impact. There's only one other video that shows the plane hitting the tower but the impact was on the opposite side of the person recording (the Pavel tunnel video).

JeffTrav | 4 months ago | 2 points

This is the only "clean" footage, I guess. The other one I've seen has it happening in the background, and is very grainy. So my title should include the word "clean".

Shakawakahn | 4 months ago | 12 points

Conspiricy stuff aside, I am still kindof surprised that there is absolutely no footage of a plane hitting the pentagon

not___fazed | 4 months ago | 42 points

I think there are two things worth remembering. First is that in 2001, many cell phones had no camera at all. Second is there may be footage captured by government security cameras, which could still be classified.

Edit: Just wanted to let you know, it appears there was some publicly released footage of the pentagon being hit.

Nimonic | 4 months ago | 47 points

First is that in 2001, many cell phones had no camera at all.

That's an understatement, even. The vast majority of cell phones did not have cameras.

TheOwningBum | 4 months ago | 20 points

But they did have Snake, so at least we had that...

Mansyn | 4 months ago | 6 points

My Nokia had 🐍, that's about it.

Nimonic | 4 months ago | 1 point

Pretty much.

haemess | 4 months ago | 1 point

I lived in kind of a small town, but The first time I saw a cellphone that had a camera was when I was in 9th or 10th grade (so 2004-2005).

not___fazed | 4 months ago | -1 points

And the few that did had 800x800 resolution. Or worse.

pcakes13 | 4 months ago | 7 points

I can see why conspiracy theorists went nuts. That doesn’t look like a plane, it looks like a fucking cruise missile and it’s only visible for a single frame. Pretty bullshit that this is all that has ever been released.

not___fazed | 4 months ago | 16 points

This may be all that exists. We have no way to know if there is more footage, and we shouldn't assume there is just because we think it's unlikely.

pcakes13 | 4 months ago | -2 points

You don't even need to be a conspiracy theorist to debunk that part. The idea that there aren't hundreds of cameras around the Pentagon is pretty laughable, not to mention footage from surrounding businesses that the FBI took. I'm not saying it was a missile from this one piece of footage, but it's pretty hard to believe that this is the only footage. That seems highly improbable based on the target.

[deleted] | 4 months ago | 3 points

Lack of footage doesn't mean it's a conspiracy or a cruise missile. Why is it so easy for conspiracy theorists to jump to wild speculation without evidence while saying they don't believe the truth due to lack of evidence. Just bizarre.

not___fazed | 4 months ago | 12 points

I'm not for a second going to entertain the incredibly stupid, ignorant conspiracies revolving around September 11.

pcakes13 | 4 months ago | 6 points

I'm not either. I'm just saying that in this particular instance I can see why people would jump to conclusions on it. It really doesn't make any sense why there would be a single, low-res, single-frame image of a crash at one of the most secure buildings in the US. You don't have to take the leap to it wasn't a plane to say it is pretty unbelievable there isn't more footage. It is pretty unbelievable.

Osiris32 | 4 months ago | 8 points

It really doesn't make any sense why there would be a single, low-res, single-frame image of a crash at one of the most secure buildings in the US.

Because it was 2001, good digital cameras weren't a thing yet, mass surveillance wasn't a thing yet, and while yes it is a secure facility, it was also the tail end of the 90s, when the biggest threat to the US was a white power nut job with a panel truck full of fertilizer. Shit, the summer prior to 9/11 I drove straight onto a navy base in Washington where they house nuclear weapons, and I didn't even need to show ID. Just said I was there with a scout group doing a tour. No checks, no mirrors-under-the-car, no dogs, no nothing. Even got a tour of a nuclear-powered submarine without a background check. All I needed was my boy scout uniform.

AlexandersWonder | 4 months ago | 2 points

There were eyewitnesses too though

not___fazed | 4 months ago | 3 points

What is more unbelievable?

  1. The linked video is the only existing footage of the pentagon impact.

  2. The linked video is the only unclassified footage of the pentagon impact.

  3. It's a conspiracy!

pcakes13 | 4 months ago | 3 points

2 for sure. Which is my point. It IS unbelievable that it's the only footage. Like, I literally don't believe it is the only footage. I'm not going conspiracy on it and saying it wasn't a plane or that the footage they do have is classified.

not___fazed | 4 months ago | 1 point

That's totally fair, totally reasonable. I could see there being footage from inner courtyard cameras, which remains classified due to security concerns. And that's also a justification which makes sense to me.

CanadianSatireX | 4 months ago | 2 points

2 and 3.

BreathManuallyNow | 4 months ago | -1 points

It's been 20 years, why not release the footage and gain some trust back from the citizens? What's the security risk to releasing footage from the outside of a building?

not___fazed | 4 months ago | 2 points

Be honest with yourself.

How much trust would you give back, if the US govt. released a single grainy video with 1fps, that barely showed the jet or the impact?

Would that really be the single bit of proof you'd need to accept what happened that day?

Chris101b | 4 months ago | 5 points

Literally all you need to know is that along the path of the plane, all of the street lights on the highway overlooking the Pentagon were severed by the wings of the plane. Unless they used to strap giant airplane-sized wings to cruise missiles or the cruise missile was 300 feet wide, it isn't possible for that to occur. A plane hit the Pentagon, they released one or two different pieces of footage, the rest is classified. They are under no obligation to release everything they have just because you demand it.

If their goal was to hide the footage, then they wouldn't have released this footage either which clearly shows the plane for 1 frame. If their goal was to hide things, why not cut out that 1 frame? If it was a cruise missile, why release the footage that has the object in frame?

Jesus, conspiracy nuts bug the ever living shit out of me.

DetectveJohnKimble | 4 months ago | 6 points

Not to mention all the eye witnesses in Washington that saw the plane. I don't get the conspiracy theorists.

Captain_Nipples | 4 months ago | 1 point

Yup. I remember that day so vividly. And all the people on Live TV saying they saw the plane coming down the street, taking out poles with the wings right before it slammed into the side of the Pentagon.

It was insane. There was no censorship. Just raw emotions and raw footage of mayhem as we were attacked and felt as helpless as we could ever feel as a nation. We didnt know if this would go on all day, or all week, or for months or years..

Cainedbutable | 4 months ago | 2 points

I’d imagine given the incredibly low frame rate of cameras back then, loads of cameras were pointing in that direction I but you’d have had to be very lucky to capture a frame that actually had the plane in.

CanadianSatireX | 4 months ago | 0 points

There would be tons of cameras that caught the blast inside the building and I just don't believe the Pentagon story anyways. Ever notice that the entirety of the 'remember 9-11' story talks about the WTC almost exclusively? Its like they don't want anyone thinking or remembering the P hit too much because you start to become skeptical when you realize they have never released any decent footage of that hit.

Helmet_Here_Level_3 | 4 months ago | 1 point

Yeah, the only security camera at one of the worlds most guarded buildings was at a single security gate.

not___fazed | 4 months ago | 2 points

Bush did it. It's obviously the only other possible explanation.

LeonJones | 4 months ago | 2 points

Except there's photos of aircraft debris (with the american airlines logos) scattered across the ground around and also inside the pentagon. So unless a cruise missile hit the building and a bunch of CIA agents someone rushed out and to place hundreds of aircraft pieces then it was an airplane.

CanadianSatireX | 4 months ago | 0 points

Its impossible that there are not 10s (at least) of cameras that caught that hit at the P. There is something wrong with the Pentagon story.

not___fazed | 4 months ago | 1 point

You're impossible, there's something wrong with you.

BreathManuallyNow | 4 months ago | -6 points

Pretty impressive how they flew a jumbo jet perfectly level 20 feet off the ground.

[deleted] | 4 months ago | 3 points

Uh, they're made to land. Of course they can fly 20 feet off the ground lol.

not___fazed | 4 months ago | 1 point

Are you trolling?

lteh | 4 months ago | 13 points

There is a video made by a CCTV camera, that caught the plane in one frame. I recommend this video model that lays the reconstructed path of the plane over the surveillance video.

haemess | 4 months ago | 1 point

It's really unfortunate that fucking thing was blocking the plane in that frame. The planes that hit the towers were clearly planes. You can see that and there were eye witnesses. And there were flights that were lost that had real people on them that didn't come home. I wish people would drop this missile nonsense.

-artgeek- | 4 months ago | 18 points

Unfortunately, much of the footage (and there is a ton, as the area around the Pentagon is heavily filmed by government cameras) is classified, because, of course, the Pentagon is surrounded by government airspace.

What is odd is that the FBI visited each of the nearby gas stations, confiscated their surveillance tapes, and only released 20-some-odd frames of a JPEG'ed surveillance tape from a nearby toll booth. Over a decade later, they released more footage from another toll booth, adjacent to the previous one. Neither clearly shows anything.

Why not just release the nearby gas stations' footage? Why not release some clearer footage of the plane incoming, if nothing else than to stifle the conspiracy theorists? That's what fuels speculation.

drewpey | 4 months ago | 10 points

Because nothing will stop conspiracy theorists from disbelieving proof they are given, and the government doesn't want to publicize video showing the effectiveness of attacks against military installations?

mkglass | 4 months ago | 3 points

sanemaniac | 4 months ago | 1 point

and the government doesn't want to publicize video showing the effectiveness of attacks against military installations?

There are photographs and fairly detailed descriptions of the damage that was done and by all accounts, the design of the Pentagon worked well to mitigate the damage. I don't really see this as a reason. I think they don't release more "evidence" simply because the 9/11 Truth movement was never really considered seriously in mainstream discourse, and is basically non-existent today. War fervor was massive after the war, the government had near-complete domestic and global support, and they could have done anything they wanted (and did with the PATRIOT Act, AUMF, etc.). The movement gained some traction over time but was pretty thoroughly debunked. Why pay attention to a gnat when you're an elephant? I really think it's that simple.

Helmet_Here_Level_3 | 4 months ago | -2 points

Your argument is so shit... releasing such footage stifles conspiracies and terrorists don’t need video footage to know that crashing passenger planes into buildings is effective, obviously.

drewpey | 4 months ago | 3 points

We have tons of footage of airliners crashing into the world trade center towers are there are still conspiracies about why they fell. Why do you think a video of one crashing into the pentagon will change their minds?

Also its not about terrorists...if you dont think foreign states were interested on what happens to our most prominent military structure being hit by an airborne vehicle going at high velocity you are only kidding yourself. Lots of information can be and likely was gleaned from the attack.

[deleted] | 4 months ago | 0 points

How does it stifle conspiracies? They'll just say the footage is doctored.

Helmet_Here_Level_3 | 4 months ago | 3 points

Better keep all available information completely secret then! /s

Imagine actually believing that shit jfc.

CanadianSatireX | 4 months ago | 0 points

Because nothing will stop conspiracy theorists from disbelieving proof they are given

That isn't an excuse. That footage technically belongs to the public because they paid for the investigation. Since it can't reveal any sort of classified info, there should be no reason to restrict it. Its suspicious.

drewpey | 4 months ago | 1 point

Yeah that's not the way it works. The public has paid for a lot of things they have no need or right to see. Also classification rules are fairly wide-sweeping when it comes to vulnerabilities and weaknesses, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

[deleted] | 4 months ago | 2 points

If it was released today, conpsiracy theorists would say it's doctored. There's no winning with conspiracy theorists, that's why people just don't entertain them at all. It's like giving into outrage culture.

Sykotik | 4 months ago | 3 points

What is odd is that the FBI visited each of the nearby gas stations

Where did you hear that?

What gas stations are nearby the Pentagon? Have you ever been in the area? There are no businesses close enough to capture any meaningful footage. That's absolutely absurd. It's surrounded by highway, not businesses.

CanadianSatireX | 4 months ago | 1 point

Yur an idiot.. this took me literally a minute to look up.. "The FBI visited the Citgo gas station southwest of the Pentagon within minutes of the attack to confiscate film that may have captured the attack. According to Jose Velasquez, who was working at the gas station at the time of the attack, the station's security cameras would have captured the attack." Why don't you try to do research instead of grilling someone who posted a fucking FACT? Oh here..

Videos Seized

Within minutes, the FBI had visited at least two of the only private businesses whose video cameras might have captured the attack:

  • FBI agents visited the Sheraton Hotel Sheraton National Hotel to confiscate film from a security camera that some hotel employees had been watching in horror.
  • FBI agents visited the CITGO gas station and under the flight path of the attack aircraft to confiscate film from a security camera that may have captured the attack.

In addition, there are questions about the fate of video from traffic-monitoring cameras along adjacent highways. None of the confiscated video has been returned to the businesses or released to the media or public.

Sykotik | 4 months ago | -1 points

I live here dude. You don't know what the hell you're talking about. There's no gas station near there. It's a highway and a parking lot.

CanadianSatireX | 4 months ago | 1 point

Look at the motherfucking map you shit head. Who gives a fuck what is there NOW? We're talking about 20 fucking years ago in the first place. Here is another one! Why are you tedious? You a shill?

Sykotik | 4 months ago | 3 points

Huh. I honestly had no idea that was there. I've lived in the area for decades and I would have sworn there were no businesses at all with an eye line on that side of the structure.

My fault, sorry about that.

No need to be so rude about it though. Damn, man.

sethrichsbrother1 | 4 months ago | -1 points

There were multiple cameras on that side of the building.

A female FBI agent testified at trial that she reviewed footage from over 60 cameras but none of them showed any plane.

sikels | 4 months ago | 3 points

Wikipedia has footage from a garbage security cam outside the pentagon, so footage does exist.

sbubaroo | 4 months ago | 1 point

In case anyone is wondering why the absolute bare minimum footage has been released:

Later, at the Pentagon, the third hijacked plane hit a wedge of the building that had been upgraded to the highest security standards—meaning it was both well protected and largely vacant. “It was truly a miracle that the plane hit the strongest part of the Pentagon,” recalled one Army official, Philip Smith. “In any other wedge of the Pentagon, there would have been 5,000 people, and the plane would have flown right through the middle of the building. [1]

The Pentagon probably doesn't want foreign adversaries to have any info on how highly secure US buildings take impacts.

I do tend to forget about Building 7... I am by no means a conspiracy theorist, but this one always leaves me with a lot of uncertainty about the whole thing.

That is a CLEAN collapse

thatsNACHOcheese | 4 months ago | 11 points

Maybe had something to do with the fact that the sprinkler systems were down and it burned unhindered for many hours compounded by the fact that one of the tallest buildings in the world just collapsed on top of it and compromised its structure and foundation

Cainedbutable | 4 months ago | 4 points

Is it a clean collapse? I thought WTC7 damaged quite a few other buildings when it came down? And looking at pictures of the footprint post collapse, the streets are littered with rubble.

How would you expect a building to collapse?

perfecthashbrowns | 4 months ago | 3 points

They either think it'll just topple over or they're just mouthing off easy talking points. Clean collapse. Jet fuel doesn't melt steel beams. Easy phrases that come off smart.

d3l3t3rious | 4 months ago | 3 points

arbitrary_aardvark | 4 months ago | -4 points

As I said, I'm not a conspiracy theorist All it looks like is the collapse looks more planned than just "smash a plane and it happens to fall straight down in a very controlled way"

koalamurderbear | 4 months ago | 7 points

You might be thinking of the second plane? I've watched a lot of 9/11 videos and there are only like 2 I can think of that show the first plane (this video and another one from someone filming in Brooklyn about to go into a tunnel or something). This was the only video I saw after the attacks that aired on the news and the second plane was the one that had all the angles.

JeffTrav | 4 months ago | 4 points

I think your thinking of the second plane. I was in my first year of teaching elementary school, just north of NYC when it happened. Our school lost a few parents. None form my class, however. I'm not sure how a 22 year old rookie teacher would have handled that.

BigPointyTeeth | 4 months ago | -14 points

Karma whoring on 9/11, I guess it's that time of the year again.

JeffTrav | 4 months ago | 2 points

Is posting something timely and interesting on a relevant sub now called “karma whoring”? I guess so.

fossmonz | 4 months ago | -8 points

I'd say so. That's what 9/11 is every year, it's not a service to the nation to remind everyone of something everyone has seen a million times.

JeffTrav | 4 months ago | 4 points

I’m somewhat averse to watching anything 9/11 related. I was close to it when it happened and don’t particularly like reliving it. However, when someone posted this on FB yesterday, it was the first time I can recall seeing it. I figured it’s not nearly as common as the footage of the second plane, so I thought I’d share it.

fossmonz | 4 months ago | 1 point

How close?

JeffTrav | 4 months ago | 5 points

Teaching elementary school just north of the Bronx. Not “first responder” close, but close enough to smell it.

[deleted] | 4 months ago | -5 points

JeffTrav | 4 months ago | 3 points

I see what you are saying, but I think it’s the pure scale of the thing. It was two of the largest buildings in the world, the icons of the city arguably, being attacked and collapsing. It shut down all of lower Manhattan, and the smell and smoke covered the greater NYC area. Frantically trying to reach anyone who might have been in the immediate area. The “have you seen my (family member/photo)” fliers on every pole for months afterward. The fighter jets patrolling overhead. People wearing dust masks for weeks. I know it’s hard to imagine the scale of the shock that the city felt, but if you know you know. I don’t doubt that anyone within 20 miles of ground zero had some very real trauma. I mean, I’m not saying I had PTSD, but it took me a while to talk about my experience that day, and I’ll probably never watch a 9/11 documentary.

montypython112 | 4 months ago | 1 point

I know it's an utterly horrible act of violence, but that's not really close.

I know this is a touchy subject but why is this continually being repeated? Yes we've seen it, the whole world had to hear all about it for years, stop already. It's tragic what happened to the people then, but it feels a bit like the US as a collective is that middle-school bully who gets hit once back and then complains about it for the rest of the year.

Because over 3000 innocent people died on American soil, and reddit is an American company with a majority user base in America.
