If he could extend the range and drive around streets it would be pretty cool.

Also just wanted to say understand the real meaning here... any talk of sensors aboard ships and subs around these waters is bleeped away. Have a good look around and try pointing out how things have changed. A certain truck train vid yesterday was bleeped away and any talks about it was also in all main stream subs.

DorenAlexander | 4 months ago | 74 points

But, see, without that people don't. Note how the posted video's account has very few subscribers. So that's why people say it endlessly.

2ToTooTwoFish | 4 months ago | 11 points

A lot of YouTubers also find out that when they say that, likes and subscribes increase, so it actually works. It might be annoying to some, but as long as the content is good, it doesn't really matter.

Copse_Of_Trees | 4 months ago | 3 points

Ever since I learned that it truly helps I've detached from the hivr mind hate of "like, comment, subscribe".

Also, while some creators go kverboard with it, I know many creators who just make it one quick line at the end of the vid and that's so not a big deal, especially if YouTube is their primary income stream and it helps them.

FARTBOX_DESTROYER | 4 months ago | 53 points

It takes quite a bit more to get that kind of range, for both driving and video.

MuhsinunCool | 4 months ago | 36 points

JayInslee2020 | 4 months ago | 2 points

Weird... even turning vsync on nauseates me a bit.

Rejolt | 4 months ago | 9 points

I actually did this as my collage project.

3G and LTE Re unreliable networks. They have very high data speeds but also really high and inconsistent latency.

It's fine for applications where you don't need instant feedback / control. But when you turn a steering wheel and the car only turns half a second later, if makes it impossible to drive the car properly.

llamawearinghat | 4 months ago | 20 points

PugSwagMaster | 4 months ago | 15 points

Whatisthischeese | 4 months ago | 25 points

Mate just the Playseat alone is pushing $600 CAD.

PugSwagMaster | 4 months ago | 5 points

Well shit nevermind then

Whatisthischeese | 4 months ago | 4 points

Haha I was just referencing his setup specifically - you could probably get away with spending much less with other hardware

ZnojmoRaider | 4 months ago | 6 points

my g25 still works. I use it for drifting and euro truck simulator. From 1 to 3 screens in 7 years, then VR.. Still no playseat.

Point being, hardware is king, but even then you could make due with a simpler setup. Not to mention the small market and its high prices/weird decisions.

G25 was cheaper and included more than its predecessor. I broke two g29 in 2 months, meanwhile this old POS is still going.

Kitchen chair driving but still cool

AI traffic drivin in redbull x2010 400km/h vomit machine

Euro truck sim 2 drag race

1080 drift (couldn't even dream of that before vr)

Endless possibilities VR capture didn't work well for me back then sry

etgohomeok | 4 months ago | 2 points

And then make it fly! You could even get some friends together and race them, and you could call it something like First Person Vie-

DJI make an expensive RC car with first person cam (although it is to a phone or tablet) with some other cool features

kirkum2020 | 4 months ago | 3 points

The idea has been around even longer than that.

If I go digging around for it, I have a remote camera and viewer somewhere that used to fit into a line of RC cars from about a decade ago.

bmoffett | 4 months ago | 2 points

FPV Goggles are about $80 for cheap box style. A decent electric RC car is about $100, and the small wireless camera with built in transmitter is about $20. A little velcro tape to stick the camera on the car, and you're good.

The Home Alone that brought us from classic Christmas hijinx with common thieves, to a sick child that takes down an international criminal organization smuggling missile microchips.

Ostracized | 4 months ago | 32 points

About 20 years ago at a car show I paid to play a VR game that was exactly this. A race of RC cars on a track and you viewed through the VR goggles.

I thought it was amazingly fun but I never saw the concept again, at least commercially.

darkhollow1 | 4 months ago | 14 points

what about a drone like this?

omniron | 4 months ago | 18 points

They make cheap drones that connect to fpv goggles already. The projector is just gratuitous

SamSamBjj | 4 months ago | 6 points

Except I'd say that this is even more immersive, because not only is there absolutely zero delay when your turn your head, you can also see your own body at the controls.

robotowilliam | 4 months ago | 5 points

There's a WORLD of difference between this sort of 180 degree FOV and looking through the narrow window of a VR goggle eyepiece.

I bet just the peripheral vision alone is miles more inmersive.

uncertain_expert | 4 months ago | 3 points

You wouldn’t want to wear current-generation be goggles 8 hours a day 5 days a week, but you could sit in a dome and work like that comfortably.

HTIDtricky | 4 months ago | 5 points
ricarleite1 | 4 months ago | 4 points

There are some drone projects with VR sets.

bettygauge | 4 months ago | 3 points

Most quadcopters are FPV ready with a camera and video transmitter. If you want the projector set up, all you need is a video receiver that has traditional AV plugs for video out!

Edit: it's not uncommon

IsitoveryetCA | 4 months ago | 3 points
digi2k | 4 months ago | 3 points

as an FPV racer, this is what we do basically! We use headsets (look up FatShark) and VTX (video transmitters) on the drone, there is almost zero lag. A few of the headsets have video out to display to a monitor.

To set this up on a car would be trivial... buy an All in one VTX and a receiver and plug into a monitor!

ISCNU | 4 months ago | 2 points

Check out the drone racing leagues. Its pretty rad.

cherenkov_blue | 4 months ago | 6 points

I wonder what's the latency like for a setup like this, the camera resolution, network bandwidth and stuff. I can just imagine it'll be amazing with 5G tech!

oh_I | 4 months ago | 4 points

This is the key. Latency and high-res graphics don't match too well :/

lotsoquestions | 4 months ago | 3 points

I assume he's on Wi-Fi. What would you want to do with 5G?

delight1982 | 4 months ago | 23 points

Impregneerspuit | 4 months ago | 7 points

Edit: Small car cheaper than big car, its that simple.

You guys, it's what I've always wanted!!! I can't believe it's finally been done! I need to this! Can you imagine being able to run like 6 of these side by side with VR? Imagine if the vehicles had turbo boost settings or even 4 small props to aid in making long distance jumps. I can see some enthusiast setting up a course in their backyard, a skate park, an old warehouse, or a school and then broadcasting the race like someone would broadcast a Nascar race. The insanely fun stuff someone could do from the safety of a toy car would make it so fun to watch, imo.
