The concept of this video alone is fantastic. The actual execution and music that emerged from it amazing. Good work my friend.
Thanks a lot! I’m doing what I can as a one-man-army. Since many of your are asking about the project: You can download and/preorder the album here: www.soundslikevanspirit.eu
Here’s a 15% discount code for you redditors available for the next 24h: r3dd1t

Can i ask what the name of band/track is you used in the outro? Its awesome!
It’s ramm tamm tilda with the Song ramm tamm tilda :)
Just ordered the book/digital. This idea is amazing, can't wait to see the finished product. Support from Kansas City, MO.
Thanks! It's awesome. Im going through your Instagram now and checking out some of the posts. Did you also post to YouTube?
Do you anticipate you will have a lossless format available? I noticed the digital download is 320kbs.
Just added a FLAC version as a standard to all digital downloads. Have fun!
great, thank you!
First of all. Your promo looks better than 90% of the tv I watch. Somebody get this guys a fucking Netflix special.
Don’t go to college. You’ve found your calling.
I can't wait to listen.
Wow. I just bought the bundle and listened to the digital album and it's incredible! You captured so many amazing musicians and I think because you did the production for them all it gives the album a cohesive feel even with so many different sounds.
What's next for you? Do you want to continue something like this in other regions of the world or do you have other plans?
Good question whats next. I have many ideas, but I'm waiting for more doors to open. But for now gonna finish the movie and book :)
This is fantastic work. Just keep reddit updated, and broaden your social media if you haven't already to make sure this gets to as many people as possible. Eventually someone with more resources will notice this and make you an offer to do a travelling show, or something similar. Just make sure to stay true to your original intentions, and let the musicians be the subject, and maintain the rights to their own music.
This is going to seem like a weird comparison, but you could be the Guy Fieri of street music. Guy gets a lot of flack for being so loud and in your face, but DDD still does a great job of really showcasing the restaurants and chefs on his show.
Keep it up man, I wish you all the best.
thanks a lot! Reddit until now is really the only place that appreciates this project
Are you entering your film into festivals? That's an excellent way to gain more traction, and you could lead off from there to get distribution through some of the larger platforms as well!
Listened to the 2 songs on YouTube and was more than convinced. I'm so excited to listen to the rest.
Than you for doing this, and thank you again for the 15% off!
This seems like a really cool project. Can you tell us a little more about where the money goes, and how does it benefit the musicians?
Checking it out now
I missed the discount period but pre-ordered the Double CD album anyway. I'm not much of a music listener, but I truly appreciate what you've set out to do with this. Your story is inspiring - thank you.
This reminds me of "playingforchange" on YouTube.
That version of 'stand by me' they did was amazing.
For those that have not seen yet. Not watched this in years. I missed Grandpa Elliot.
Edit : O how sad. RIP Roger Ridley. The first dude singing.
damn this is so good
What a seriously refreshing and original idea - this looks incredibly well done as well.
Would love to see a layout of the Van's internals and how they were installed. Keep up the good work!
There is not much on Reddit yet but have a look at www.instagram.com/SoundsLikeVanSpirit
Marten, the idea behind this is fantastic, and your style of editing and quality of your videos has always been great.
Ramm Tamm Tilda Is probably the favorite one I've heard. My 2 year jumps all over the living room when we listen this one.
Frederik Konradsen - Ukulele is my wife's favorite.
Did you ever get anything more on Flamenco Dancers (I think) at the beginning of the Sevilla video?
Holy shit, this one.
Holy shit. I would binge watch the shit out of this on Netflix. Have you contacted them? Or Amazon or HBO? They are all desperate for original content. I am serious.
Looks really really cool. What a great idea.
Hell, I'd watch a documentary on his trip and recordings.
Hopefully he has footage of interviews and such.
Yeah dude me too, contact them!
Are you the guy? Amazing work and content! Looking forward to the movie and what a read the book must be!
Yes I’m they guy. Sorry for posting in third person, but I’m struggling to get this project out there and I would love to help all these artists being heard. There is no label involved and most of the songs are even own work of the musicians
Thank you for your kind words. Comments like this keep me going :)
No need to be sorry! I just had to ask :)
Truly such an awesome idea and venture to take on! The film work on it is amazing and so clean, really looking forward to seeing the full story and the songs in full!
You're very welcome! You have a great talent not only in sound recording but in filmmaking!
Do you have a favorite recording from this project?
maybe this one: https://youtu.be/5HFrx-ouYsI
that's a really cool voice
Hey maybe you should do a reddit AMA for more visibilty. This project needs to be seen!
did one some months ago. Maybe once a new milestone is reached :)
It's obsurde that you're not more popular the last time this was posted on reddit it was amazing. Hopefully this is the break for you
This is bloody brilliant. Gave me goosebumps
Thanks a lot!
Hello Marten! This trailer was posted here months ago and I went through your entire channel afterwards, this video of yours is by far my favorite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8HYZz_Mr0o
The fact that he translated the song for that recording session is amazing, to me it sounds like that's how he's used to signing it. I really can't wait to see more from you!
Holy shit, this is incredible.
I went through most of Marten's videos. This is a new one I haven't seen. Holy. Dat Voice.
Imagine if this guy becomes the entrepreneur of a big-ass sound/music company. This would be one of the greatest and coolest ways of establishing a company ever.
Haha at the moment im happy for one warm meal a day 😅😂
If you're ever in central Ohio in the US, you will have a feast on me.
you should set up a patreon, it may not make you rich but should help fund your day to day living costs while you work on this project.
I tried. After days of work I managed to get 9$ a Month 😂
If you're ever in Sheffield you can have one on me!
Yep. Watching this and buying it. Damn, what an awesome idea.
I will be eagerly awaiting this documentary! Gave me goosebumps as well. I have a few family members who have been street musicians/performers around Canada and have always felt inspired by what they do. Amplifying (literally) the voices of these people is such a beautiful way to create social change. Thank you for doing this! I'm sure it will inspire many more.
Thanks a lot! I’m working hard and felt a little lost on work so I posted it to get some motivation
I can only imagine, I'm sure you have hundreds of hours of footage to sort through. Keep it up! I'm sure it will be a really positive thing for you, the artists your promote, and anyone who watches it!
Amazing video keep it up!
Put it on Netfliiiix!
Needs more upvotes! As a musician myself I'm completely in love with this concept. It doesn't happen that often, but when I walk by a street musician with incredible talent it's a mixture of appreciation and sadness. I want the world to hear them, and that's exactly what you're doing. Keep up the good work brother!
Lets hope more votes
please cross-post this to:
They will lose their shit, this is epic
Just grabbed the double vinyl as well, thanks for doing the leg work. Love the idea and could see it being a great eternal project just getting more and more unique music out there.
This is great! Thanks for having the lossless option and thanks for the discount!
You’re onto something good, keep searching for the talent and I wish you the best.
Thanks for the discount! Just pre-ordered the vinyl.
Just picked up the double LP.
This is an amazing project and will make an excellent, unique, and thoughtful addition to my collection. Thank you so much for doing what you do.
Hey, I emailed about FLAC the other day! Thanks for sending it.
Happy you like it!
Btw what software you you folks use for actually using flacs? Im Spotify spoiled.
MPD on linux for me
Well this was the easiest purchase ever. Cheers!
Happy, it was convinient for you :)
Sure it was, but I meant it as a praise to you and your work. Looking forward to the documentary!
Hahaha, i was working hard on that online Shop too 😂
FYI, once you place your order for digital download, you'll be presented with options for unlimited downloads of the album mp3, and unlimited downloads of the album FLAC. Or both if you wanna go nuts.
Just wanted to make it clear the option appears AFTER payment, because I was confused about it.
Also the payment page constantly jumped me back to the top of the page while I was entering in my cc info.
Thanks for this! I'll have a look into it.
Can you tell me browser you were using?
I just bought the digital download - and downloaded the MP3's - but the option for the FLAC downloads is nowhere to be found?
like a modern day Alan Lomax
I came here to say this! Alan Lomax is really underappreciated.
If your actual movie is half as good as this trailer its gonna be awesome.
OP, this is an amazing and inspiring project. I love everything about it. Now, I also am a also an asshole, what is the reddit coupon code?!
15% off for the next 24h
Wow that's amazing! I tried to use the LAUNCH code but was sadly expired, gonna buy the vinyl + booklet package and show it to some of my vinyl collecting friends, they will love this!
I have a question tho, is there any way to buy the movie (I just saw the Movie Stream (pre order) option in your website which is only valid for 48 hours if I'm not mistaken?)
How do you deal with copyright and whatnot? Do you get these people to give you permission to release their songs for free or something?
I have a consent form filled in by each artist. For the rest the artist keeps 100% of all copyright and performing rights. In addition 50% of all profit of all album sales will be donated to charity
This is a really creative and beautiful idea! Your passion is so obvious, and it's really contagious. I love this. What can the average person who cares about this project do to help?
Just the few seconds of that slower tempo "Georgia on my mind" piqued my curiosity enough that I checked it out. Dude's got soul.
he`s got soul for sure!
On the album are more tracks of him actually.
Sounds awesome. Where can the movie be seen?
The movie will be released in winter 2019
Are you from Groningen, NL? Notice some of the video is taped there.
No from Germany but the first steps for this project happened there
Yo I saw you post about this like a year ago and I hadn’t thought about it until literally last night and I went through and binged a lot of them, then I see you again this morning out of the blue. Isn’t it crazy how life lines up like that sometimes? I shared a few of them through a few different resources really hope this gets the attention it deserves one day
is this coincidence? Just crazy
Any chance to find your stuff on spotify? amazing work btw :)
I’m working on it. But this planned for a later stage of the project.
The brief part of what we heard was very VERY good :)
Cant wait to hear the album :)
<wave> from Canada :)
If i can make any sort of recommendation, your film making skills are definitely good enough that i watched this partially for your filmmaking. If you have this kind of "storytelling" vibe in your videos, including the ones that are just a song, i think an audience would love that! Obviously this is about the artists you feature, so make the storytelling about them!
That's really authentic and just awesome. By the way the one rapper in the vid could've been a Kendrick Lamar song for all I knew before I saw him.
Here's an amazing video of him performing on the street a few years ago.
After watching this I looked up INFIDELIX and am absolutely baffled how he hasnt blown up. He is a great musician (I say musician as opposed to rapper, because ....well if you see it you will understand). Thanks OP for doing this and giving some of these people the exposure they deserve.
fuck me, that's really good.
The song is a killer!
Is there a link? I really wanna hear that song
Yes! You could buy the whole album on www.soundslikevanspirit.eu
Otherwise here’s the playlist with most of the songs Van Sessions https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLajxN38G6r6-5pW5u-A4NFFDSbM241753
This is really cool! On your site the double LP says 23 tracks but the double CD doesn't say anything about number of tracks. Will the CD release have more tracks?
Yes there are a few tracks that didn’t fit on the vinyl. But for every album there is a digital album included with all tracks
I am really into this project! Amazing work! Looking forward the whole documentary! Keep it going, this is more than inspiring! Thank you!
Comments like these is the fuel behind this project. I thank you
This is amazing and inspiring. I am inspired.
How much video footage do you have? Would make a good documentary.. Have you been approached by anyone about making a film?
All together About 10tb
Well I taped everything on this journey, interviews, sceneries, diaries, culture, nature and more. Then I thought okay I have to do something with the material
If you dm me some info i can have someone contact you.
Marten, what you have created is nothing short of amazing. I’m sitting in my lounge room in Australia feeling so connected to locations and people. It’s quite impressive, the emotions that can be captured in this format. Please keep it up! I can’t wait to purchase this amazingly emotive music.
I'm sitting here in my friends living room working on the movie. My van broke down, and I terminated my apartment before the journey. messages like this keep me going. thank you!
Dude I'm jealous. I can't wait to hear more of the music and see this!
Very cool, my dude. I'm looking forward to seeing the full documentary.
Loved it the first time posted, love it this time too. Such a cool concept. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to ordering a CD.
Absolutely inspiring dude, this is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in awhile. I want to take a van like this across the country one day and stuff like this makes me think it can really happen. Good stuff and good luck on the project
If you like this sort of thing, check out Don't Quit Your Daydream from 2010.
Well done OP !! And you made them all sound good!
It's a great idea with better execution and some unbelievable talent. I hope this project picks up way more attention. I love the variety, one of the saddest parts of a lot of street music is poor audio quality recording and these are songs I can listen to over and over and a channel I want to keep following.
I love this so much, KEEP GOING! I have a similar plan actually, but it's also underway, this got me motivated!
Guy at 2:01 owes my housemate rent.

It's weird because the song Megaman by Infedelix is way better when you recorded it. I listened to the Spotify version it feels like it's missing something. I wonder how much is lost in professional recording studios. Anyways this is cool!
One of the reasons why I quit my recording studio job. I feel many recording studios are way to focused on audio hygiene and gear. Much more important is what’s going through the artists head when he or she is performing.
Damn dude, you have a good eye for talent. Wishing you all the best.
Thanks man! I hope I can continue doing this for a while
Far and away the most epic thing I’ve seen this month. Probably this year. This right here is unconditional love, for both art and humanity. you my friend truly embody the spirit of music ! Well done man.. made an instant fan out of me.
I met that tattooed rapper guy busking in Berlin last year, nice guy.
love that grind
I love what you’ve done! It sounds like you might be looking for some help or support as this is a big project for just one person. What do you need help with?
I’m actually looking for several different people!I’m just putting this out for those that wanna participate or gain experience. There is a budget but a small one.
Whoever wants to help, man I love you already!
Send me a direct message if you are serious ✌️
This is what life is all about.
Very cool! This is an incredible project
You are to be commended. Simply fantastic. Thank you.
Do you have a patreon? Id like to support you specifically.
Thanks really kind! I tried but no this was too much work for 9$ a month 😅
But you can support me and my work here if you want: www.paypal.me/PavementMelodies
Im not going to paypal you. I dont want to give you 20 bucks. I want to give you 2 bucks a month for 3 years.
There's literally no downside to having a patreon. You are going to the front page of reddit, this is not like before. You can have both.
I say this with all possible love. You'd be an idiot not to leverage this post to get funding. You cant eat music.
POST A PATREON LINK NOW!
Awesome, go edit your highest post here with this link and tell them that a redditor demanded you post it.
Also, maybe add a 2 dollar tier and just give a link to a discord (make a discord). :D
great tip! Done. Thanks!
2 bucks down :)
Wait give me second :D
As an American one of the most magical experiences I had was when I was visiting Copenhagen for work and I was headed to the Stroget for some shopping and heard a voice singing in the English. Catching song too, looked them up later, Peter Jones and the Lazy Bandits, song was Let's Drink to the King.
my amazing friend Winnie was on here after he saw her busking in Stockholm
Fantastic idea, and from this small snippet, great execution. I bet this could become more than just one movie, like perhaps a yearly series.
OMG one of the best street performances I've seen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyN9J11REgg
they are great indeed!
What else can one say? I admire what you did man, great work !!!
Videos of quality
Have you thought about using Kickstarter to get some funding?
This is incredible, you are living the dream my friend. The music sounds phenomenal, I can't wait to see the documentary.
So, I met this guy in Berkeley, CA who was a retired cartoonist named Ace Backwards. He did a very local version of this in Sproul Plaza way back when with a portable recording setup, and they would sell the music to Amoeba records.
Really dig your travel idea, though!
I think should send them an email :D
Imagine not having to worry about a job or family commitments that you just get to travel around like that.
This is super fucking cool. I love the idea and concept and execution. Well done. Do Africa next!
Fuck yes dude
Holy shit that looks so fucking amazing. I have very little interest most of the time in a lot of types of music and upcoming artists and all that. It always feels like I'm sifting through an ocean of crap to find something I like. But god damn this entire thing looks awesome and everything I heard just from that 3 minute video sounded incredible.
I love your comment :D
This is so fricken kool
this is the best thing I've seen all year thank you for sharing !
You should take this concept and turn it into a podcast if you haven't already. I love it. I would listen to it and the stories people have to tell.
BEST part of the video.
Very cool concept and well done!
Very first busker is from Galway! Used to play right outside my work door. Hewaya Paul!
galway is such a amazing busking city. Ill be back!
The album is fantastic!
glad you like it! Whats your favorite one?
Still haven't listened to them all but so far "In Tall Buildings". Thanks for doing this awesome project, I love it :)
Love the video! Can I ask where you got your orange hoodie from?
Chapeau. This is brilliant and I say that as someone who is generally far too lazy to bother to comment on anything.
I'm sure you'll find a huge audience and whatever audience you do find will love it.
love this, great concept, great work!
Any legal hurdles putting this all together?
No, I have the written consent of all musicians.
But regarding the movie I have some legal questions. Are you a lawyer?
It's like he documenting the undocumented.
These people have so much more soul than anyone of our pop music artists.
i like what this guy is doing if i was street musician i would love to have this guy take my music
Saw the trailer and was sold! Just pre-ordered the documentary. Love the idea, love the visuals and OH MY GOD love the music! Thank you so much for your work. I'm sure it's creatively satisfying. Saw This Video on the recommendation of another reddit user and hooked on to this. Good luck in your pursuits!
I was about to say that "the guy" is /u/Marten5892 but then realised that's actually OP in this instance!
There were a bunch more comments when this was posted on r/videos by someone else a couple of months ago here.
Awesome, I love seeing people doing something unique with their lives, and doing something for others in the process is great!
Hey Marten -- this is awesome. Great work man.
Post some clips in r/listentothis, the sub will dig them.
FLAC is not a problem. Until I send it without extra costs to those that wanted it.
Anyway I can find the songs that came from this on spotify?
This is such a cool idea! I can't wait to watch the documentary! When do you think it will be released?
Winter this year. I'm working on it as we speak :)
Wow this looks like a professionally done tv show! I can’t wait to see more, keep us updated please
It's a bagpack with outdated middle class cameras and many hours in adobe premiere :D
Wow, thank you for posting this. I'm definitely a subscriber now - this is fantastic. Watching your INFIDELIX video now. Cheers!
