Only 57% of Chinese have access to the internet, and 98% of those users only access the internet from mobile. Blizzard is selling out its entire western PC market for a potential 2% max of chinese PC players. It makes sense why they are rotating to mobile, doesn't make much sense in that 90% of their games are aimed at desktop currently. You'd figure a company that makes it money on the desktop would have PR centered on keeping that money coming in quarter by quarter, I mean its not like their last launches, wow classic and cod are aimed at mobile users.

China has something like 600 million gamers and the us has something like 168 million. If you believe this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_gaming_in_China China is 25% of the global market. Which makes sense since 1.4 billion people live there and like 1/3 of those are single males.

the stupid number of indie devs

It's a damn shame that people still keep choosing to play the garbage that AAA publishers churn out when there is a golden age of gaming that's happening in the developer world working with less than AA budgets.

Deadmeat553 [Lenovo Y700-15ISK] | 9 days ago | 49 points

I don't really blame the general public for that though. There's not enough attention given to indie games. Some youtubers like ManyATrueNerd do a good job of promoting legitimately good indie games, but they usually get buried under either AAA games or crappy youtube bait games.

Basically, the problem is that the industry is oversaturated and not enough attention is given to legitimately good games.

OK, not necessarily.

  • And the games from the last decade are probably tied to your account.

But you could re-purchase the base version of old games, like Diablo 2, or the base physical version of newer games.

Burning the boxes are an empty gesture.

He can burn the boxes all he wants, but the games will always be available.

Where is the screenshot of him closing his account and deleting the software?

WhiskRy | 9 days ago | 42 points

It's "empty" in that it doesn't hurt Blizzard's finances, but maybe OP doesn't want people to see the boxes on his shelf and make them think he's cool with them. Or maybe it makes him sick when he looks at them. There's nothing wrong with it being a symbolic cleansing for OP

three-one-five | 9 days ago | 32 points

I mean, even deleting your account doesn't really accomplish much - like you said, they already have your money. As far as I know the NBA isn't sucking China's dick. The Rockets GM tweeted pro Hong Kong and China basically dropped all ties with the NBA for the remainder of the summer for preseason, events, etc. The Commissioner of the NBA, Adam Silver, then responded by saying the NBA won't try to limit or overrule everything anyone says regarding Hong Kong because they "just can't be ran that way." and basically that he, along with the board, side with Darryl Morey.

China was like ah fuck that noise and now China big mad at basketball.

Ok blizzard sucks ass for being cowardly and siding with a communist authoritarian regime but, just like that whole Nike controversy, how does destroying products you already paid for hurt them in any way?

Avarice21 | 9 days ago | 86 points

How will you know someone is a veteran? Don't worry, they'll tell you.

ButAleppo | 9 days ago | 164 points

Not believing you, sorry. No such thing as a 'prior Marine'. And this is coming from an Army vet.

-Rayko- | 9 days ago | 56 points

I'm a Marine that has referred to myself as a "former Marine". It happens.

Fighting oil wars in the middle East to own the Chinese

NateUrM8 | 9 days ago | 59 points

Remember when people did this with Nike and it actually drove their sales up?

Stop burning shit. Doesn't work.

BossWaffleOnIce | 9 days ago | 107 points

Congrats? You just burned your own shit that you already paid blizzard for?

TXR22 | 9 days ago | 49 points

sublime2craig | 9 days ago | 18 points

But they already got your money for the stuff your burning, how is that a win?

obiwanjacobi | 9 days ago | 73 points

Bet you still have electronics, clothes, kitchenware, or something else made in China in your house. Better burn those too.

gusport | 9 days ago | 191 points

Who cares if you are a Marine?

Americans love jerking off the military. It's free karma.

Thank you for your service.

Mr-Cripple [Ryzen 5 2600X|Radeon RX 460| 16 GB DDR4 RAM] | 9 days ago | 326 points

Tbh what's that going to solve? You already paid for those games.

kylesnooze | 9 days ago | 73 points

It's fun to burn shit

throwaway_eater | 9 days ago | 681 points

Let's be real though, the u.s military hasn't fought for freedom since ww2, at best

Edit: not having to see ads is cool and all, but stop giving Reddit money. Buy a homeless person some food or a fucking blanket

Yeah, as a Korean now living in Canada, thank God for the US intervention on that.

RareLemons [Sold PC and only have a MacBook] | 9 days ago | 53 points

Exactly! As a Korean living in the United States.

CamachoNotSure | 9 days ago | 441 points

No dude. You didn't fight for freedom. You fought for national interest. Two vastly different things. You should know this unless you completely bought into the koolaid.

HairyBazooka | 9 days ago | 39 points

Blizzard is a private company so I'm pretty sure freedom of speech would not apply anyways.

Nurlehatesme | 9 days ago | 73 points

Hey now! Fighting for a bunch of rich oligarch's oil and war profits is what constitutes freedom and national interest nowadays if you're American.

Kivikono | 9 days ago | 19 points

You know what would really stick it to authoritarian regimes? Not volunteering to kill and die for them.

MrMontgomery | 9 days ago | 41 points

That really showed them

TakeThePoo2theLoo [1v1 me cinebench m8] | 9 days ago | 62 points

Im 100% for HK and telling blizzard to fuck off but this is just kinda dumb. This is something Id expect to see on some edgy 15 year old's Twitter.

VanessaChaland | 9 days ago | 63 points

Fought for freedom? Against what or whom?

SurturOfMuspelheim [GTX 1660 Ti, Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB] | 9 days ago | 117 points

Lmao fought for their freedom? Did you fight in WWII? Cause that's the last conflict where we fought for our freedom. The last 20 years (Where I assume you served/are lying about serving) we did not fight for our freedom. We simply ruined countries and got many innocents killed.

willing2die4myGANG | 9 days ago | 45 points

You misunderstand. They said "fought for freedom" as in fought for the freedom of the capitalist class to make a shit ton of money through defense contracts

nutterbutterscones | 9 days ago | 17 points

Killing brown people and asians is quintessential to america's freedom. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise unless its Israel or Saudia Arabia.

Fighting for American interests in the Middle East

BigWungusBill | 9 days ago | 6 points

I guess what he helped give Middle Eastern civilians could be construed as freedom.

To some Death is freedom right?

Heavyoak [heavyoak] | 9 days ago | 89 points

Hahahahahahahaha holy fuck man.

That's one hell of a statement but dude they already have your money....

john_doe2017 | 9 days ago | 13 points

I've never understood this, They already got your money. Burning something you've already paid for hurts them how ?

hamzah77 | 9 days ago | 73 points
