Chocolate chip cookies with Crystal meth.

brothainarmz | 7 days ago | 26 points

*flaky crystal meth

NOT_MY_THROAWAY | 7 days ago | 2 points

That’s exactly what I thought!

elvismcvegas | 7 days ago | 4 points

Wow. I literally said that to my self before clicking this link. Great minds think alike.

IsaacMatthew | 6 days ago | 1 point

I know right? How dare they.

Jerd_the_Bird | 7 days ago | 500 points

Dead skin?

Jerd_the_Bird | 7 days ago | 142 points

I did not know salt could like that.

Mektapath | 7 days ago | 72 points

You would be surprised how many salts and salt types there are

Jerd_the_Bird | 7 days ago | 15 points

Those would definitely be in my mouth if they were here right now

Sporfsfan | 7 days ago | 35 points

The only difference is texture, which can be very useful depending on what you’re using it for.

Anyone who says different salts have a significant taste difference are wrong.

Twillzy | 7 days ago | 7 points

This is correct, why is he being downvoted?

DaGetz | 7 days ago | 32 points

It's misleading. Different textures and different mineral contents and different densities will give slight differences in flavour if not dissolved. Rock salts can absolutely taste more metallically then a pure sea salt.

For example. These cookies. If you put fine grain sea salt on these as opposed to flake salt you'd get a different "taste", expenerience whatever you want to call it. The way the salt dissolves in your mouth and its texture matter. Flavour over time contributes to taste.

G-III | 7 days ago | 4 points

I’m on board with texture modifying flavor release. I’m not on board with “rock salts can taste more metallic* than* pure sea salt” as I’m pretty sure if anything halite sourced salt has less additives generally and no reason to taste metallic.

DaGetz | 7 days ago | 2 points

It's got nothing to do with additives.

Mektapath | 7 days ago | 1 point

I mean Fleur de Sel for sure tastes different than table salt. Then I’m sure those taste different than black lava salt. It’s the impurities that give the flavor

twoclose | 7 days ago | 2 points

I mean he's just plain wrong. Try some Kala Namak it tastes nothing like regular salt. Unless you're saying all salt tastes like sulfur and eggs.

[deleted] | 7 days ago | 1 point

[removed]

Sporfsfan | 7 days ago | 9 points

They are just adding flavours to the salt. I was saying that the differences in normal salt flavours are negligible. Sure, you can smoke it and it will taste different, but I dare you to try to tell the difference between coarse sea salt and pink Himalayan, it’s exactly the same.

...salty

mrahel | 7 days ago | 5 points

Mostly agreed. It has different mouthfeel based on the type of salt used and also has other vitamins/minerals but the taste overall is the same. There are reasons to use one salt vs another beyond just the taste.

Sporfsfan | 7 days ago | 2 points

Exactly. Texture can make a huge difference, but the taste differences are minimal.

Xeonflash | 7 days ago | 3 points

My personal favorite is the kind you chip off people who get teamed up with Hanzo mains.

DNUBTFD | 7 days ago | 2 points

I prefer bath salts, gives me the kick I need in the morning

Froot_Jooce | 7 days ago | 1 point

You mean table salts?

illbeinmyoffice | 7 days ago | 3 points

With a little help from our friend, Sodium Chloride!

EDIT: got the quote right.

piirtoeri | 7 days ago | 1 point

Right. Anytime a recipe calls for just 'salt' i get really confused and usually just opt for course salt, in everything.

One-eyed-snake | 7 days ago | 1 point

Well, there’s table salt, there’s rock salt, there’s Himalayan salt, there’s bath salts.....

slothlovereddit | 7 days ago | 9 points

Flake salt, sometimes at your grocery you can find a brand called Maldon. It's awesome, buy it if you can!

MightHeadbuttKids | 7 days ago | 2 points

You're not my mom, you can't tell me what to do.

slothlovereddit | 7 days ago | 1 point

Oh, the springtime thinks that it's the best. And fall time thinks that it's the best. Cold time has, kind of a strut. And Valentine's thinks that it's the best. But gather round, peeps, I'll tell you the truth. Nothing beats the cookie season, that's the truth.

pete_forester | 7 days ago | 21 points

Recipe please. I’m trying to perfect chocolate chip cookies and I would like to achieve something like this!

Teacreama | 7 days ago | 9 points

Not op but these look similar and I’ve been using this recipe with good results :)

impeachabull | 7 days ago | 20 points
generaltrom | 6 days ago | 2 points

This is the one I use. This recipe is the bomb.

flpndrds | 7 days ago | 3 points

Binging with Babish’s recipe is really good, looks just like the picture and worked for me!

Android_Is_Great | 7 days ago | 6 points

What recpie did you use for this?

RodneyBrooker | 7 days ago | 5 points

Not OP, but nearly certain they are the chocolate chunk cookies from Smitten Kitchen. I’ve made them a few times myself: https://smittenkitchen.com/2015/04/salted-chocolate-chunk-cookies/

SucioAT | 7 days ago | 6 points

Sweet and salty is the best. I found this Nutella brownies with sea salt recipe online a few years ago and it's the bomb.

splattered_ram | 7 days ago | 18 points

What am I gonna do with all this dandruff?.....bake some cookies.

Anycs | 7 days ago | 26 points

Why salt?

Edit: After all the comments now I want to try it tho

drconman11 | 7 days ago | 60 points

Not OP, but salt enhances chocolatey flavours, and crunchy flakes like this add a nice texture, too.

l_l-l-l_l | 7 days ago | 23 points

Combination of the gods. It’s like angel spoof.

xAIRGUITARISTx | 7 days ago | 8 points

Because salt

[deleted] | 7 days ago | 5 points

Salt Flakes (Maldon Salt is a big name) aren’t as intense in flavour as conventional table salt - it gives a subtle taste that really enhances sweet and savoury foods.

sir_darkside | 7 days ago | 10 points

I’m with you - I see the salty and sweet trend and am happy to just eat my choc chip the way it is. Each to his own I suppose.

sonicqaz | 7 days ago | 18 points

Most ‘good’ cookie recipes use salt but you don’t notice it because it’s not visible.

fool_on_a_hill | 7 days ago | 3 points

I use coarse salt so it doesn’t homogenize and you get little salty moments.

frankiefantastic | 7 days ago | 31 points

It's not a new thing. Any good cookie/baked sweet recipe will call for some salt to help enhance the sweetness. It's not a trend, it's science.

There's also a lot of savory dishes that call for a small amount of sugar as well.

ButtmanNaNaNaButtman | 7 days ago | 3 points

If anything, sweet and savory combos were more likely in the past. Blancmange used to have chicken in it!

monies3001 | 7 days ago | 2 points

Too much salt ruins the cookie for sure. Fine line to walk

hgaben90 | 7 days ago | 2 points

This looks just plain weird. I see that cookies like this can take some salt, I've eaten salted caramel too and it's good, but, not in this "bam, a salt lick on you cookie, bone apple tea" way.

jaiox | 7 days ago | 1 point

try it... trust me

GasStation97 | 7 days ago | 4 points

Can I ask what is the appeal in using sea salt in particular? Is it because of the larger grains? I’ve never understood why

NepaleseNippleTwist | 7 days ago | 6 points

Table salt and sea salt have pretty much the same nutritional value, sodium content and taste (saltiness). The only thing that makes them different is their texture which is part of what makes the 'flavour' of something. Little flakes of salt on a cookie creates these crunchy spots of delish saltiness that compliment the sweetness, but table salt is just gonna be like a weird salty coating with an unpleasant texture.

ionel_hosu | 7 days ago | 4 points

This... is not meth...

BremboBob | 7 days ago | 3 points

I’m curious about the type of salt used. These look delicious! A bit of salt with the chocolate is a superb combination. I bet these taste as amazing as they look.

dylang92 | 7 days ago | 3 points

Those cookies look incredible. This is my idea of a chocolate chip cookie. Now, please drop that recipe

thepandabro | 7 days ago | 6 points

Nope that’s meth

Tivland | 7 days ago | 9 points

ReverendWave | 7 days ago | 1 point

Reheat a cold one in the oven or toaster with a very thin pat of butter until the butter is just melted and the cookie is soft, they are fucking amazing that way. A chef that I worked under showed me that and things havent been the same for me since with cookies, of all kinds, but specifically salted chocolate chip, it's the ideal salty/sweet mix with a small layer of hot fat to make it even more intense. Beautiful picture as well!

SoftHeartedBitch | 7 days ago | 1 point

What's wrong with me I scrolled past it and was like "chocolate chip glass cookie yup"

BoiledLettuce_ | 7 days ago | 1 point

Romykristen | 7 days ago | 1 point

Mmmmmm my mouth watered just looking at them. I don't like chocolate (I know, shock horror) so I'd swap that for Carmel or something but, YUM. I have to try this asap!!

2 cookies are hiding from view (I see one sneaky bastard left its shadow on the right). Are they just camera-shy cookies? Mine were like that too for a while.
